I don’t think this person understands; I have trouble going out in public, but it has absolutely nothing to do with Autism. It’s because I’m in constant pain and I have anxiety problems.
That doesn’t make me “a little bit on the spectrum”. That has nothing to do with the spectrum and trying to treat it like it does is a disservice to people on the fucking spectrum. That reply was unacceptable.
You can’t have neurotypical people coming in and telling you YOUR VIEW on Autism is incorrect and somehow they know better than you, an Autistic person, AND THEN TRY TO TONE POLICE YOU BECAUSE THEY DON’T LIKE YOU CALLING THEM OUT. This is textbook bad ally etiquette all over the place, god fucking damn.

It gets worse around ~~~autism awareness month~~~ because people swoop in from everywhere and they talk over us, invalidate our experiences and opinions, they pander for money that will go to researching the “cure” instead of acceptance and social support that would, you know, help real people, they act like they care when they really don`t, and then when April ends they go back to making jokes about us and calling us by offensive terms. And then, THEN, they wonder why autistic people become hostile and angry when we read things like that post.
Also, not only does it do a disservice to people on the spectrum, it fucks over people who aren`t and have other kinds of mental, physical, and communicative disabilities. It lumps everyone in to one category, which is a problem with just the autism community, it shouldn`t happen to other people just because they have one or two or even three issues in common with autistic people. Also, no one should have live with the public stigma surrounding autism. It`s horrible.

This is August Landmesser. Right here, you see him standing in a crowd of nazis, with his arms crossed and plainly not giving a f*ck. He could have easily gotten killed for doing this. He also tried to marry his half-Jewish sweetheart, and got arrested for it. Sadly, neither he nor his girlfriend survived the war, but his two daughters did. I saw this guy in a Cracked article (click on the photo to be directed there) and immediately knew I had to submit this.
