Black Heron

(Egretta ardesiaca)

also referred to as a black egret, the black heron is a wading bird of the family Ardeidae (herons) native to most bodies of water in southern Africa and Madagascar. They are a medium sized bird growing up to 66cm long, and true to their name thy have a jet black body with yellow legs. But the most interesting feature about these birds is not their plumage or size but their method of feeding which is called canopy feeding, where the bird uses it’s wings to create a sort of umbrella which shades the water under it which in turn attracts fish which the bird then eats

The Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) is the only native North American bird to be domesticated. Wild Turkeys inhabit a wide array of habitats, including deciduous woodland, dry scrub, and grassland. While this species is rarely found in urban or suburban areas, Wild Turkeys will visit agricultural fields and pastures. In fact, the ancestors of the Domestic Turkey likely became associated with humans through visiting maize fields in Mexico.
